Liverpool engineering firm brings together city’s business community to support cancer care, neonatal research and NHS staff wellbeing
Liverpool, 30 April 2026 — Sutcliffe, the Liverpool-based civil & structural engineering and building surveyors, has raised £110,000 for three Liverpool NHS charities at its annual Spring Charity Ball, held at the Titanic Hotel’s Rum Warehouse on 24th April 2026.

The evening brought together clients, partners and the wider business community in support of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity and University Hospitals of Liverpool Charity. The total builds on last year’s extraordinary result of £89,000, which surpassed all expectations and set a benchmark for the event’s ambition, giving a total raised for the NHS by Sutcliffe of over £320,000. If every business stepped up like Sutcliffe for the NHS, just imagine how much stronger and fairer our society could be.
Funds raised for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity will go towards addressing health inequalities with the practical and financial barriers that prevent patients completing chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.
At Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity, donations will fund advanced research into the Baby Belly Research Campaign helping to improve care for those unfortunate babies who need specialist support after birth in the neonatal unit.
The third strand of fundraising supports the launch of the University Hospitals of Liverpool Health and Hope Campaign. This initiative will provide vital support for patients, families and staff at Aintree Major Trauma Centre and was instigated by major events, such as the Liverpool Trophy parade and the Southport tragedy, highlighting the need for further support.
A poignant moment during the evening honoured the memory of Sue Wright, whose experience at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre inspired a significant donation from Matt Morris of Home Bargains. Faisal Arif, Sue’s partner and CEO of The Harrogate Group, paid tribute to her kindness, dedication and the lasting impact she made on those around her.
Sean Keyes, CEO of Sutcliffe, said: “Every year I come away from the Spring Ball genuinely moved by the generosity of the people in the construction industry. Our clients, partners and friends across the industry give their time, their money and their enthusiasm to causes that matter enormously to the lives of ordinary people in this city, and that is something we take real pride in. Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity and University Hospitals of Liverpool Charity are doing vital, often invisible work to ensure patients receive the best possible care and that NHS staff have the support they need to keep them going through tough times. Sutcliffe has deep roots in healthcare construction across the Northwest, and these partnerships feel like a natural extension of the responsibility we feel towards the communities we serve. I am extremely proud of what we achieved together on the night.”
Events like this don’t just happen by chance, they are made possible by the support of headline sponsor Austin Wilkinson Demolition, with further support from Layer Surveys, Butterworth Spengler, Fox IT, Titanic Hotel Liverpool, Seddon Housing Partnerships, John McCall Architects, Authentic People, Metro Developments and Walker Engineering.
Sutcliffe has a strong track record in healthcare estates across the Northwest, with completed projects including the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Liverpool Women’s Hospital, Mossley Hill Hospital, The Christie and the Countess of Chester. The firm’s commitment to these three charities reflects a belief that their responsibilities extend beyond the built environment to the communities that depend on it.
