Earlier this month, sisters Georgina (8) and Matilda (4) took on a truly special challenge – completing the Mini Great Manchester Run on Saturday 17th May in memory of their beloved big brother, Lucas Alexander.

Throughout Lucas’s time in hospital, the Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity supported the family with vital resources, including accommodation and life-saving equipment. Inspired by this support, Georgina and Matilda chose to raise money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), helping to ensure other families can receive the same care and comfort they once did.
This year would have marked Lucas’s 10th birthday, and the girls wanted to do something special to honour his memory – something they believe Lucas would have loved doing with them. With bright smiles and brave hearts, they crossed the finish line with pride, cheered on by family and friends.
Although it was their first running event, they carried on a proud family tradition – their parents have previously taken part in the Great Manchester Half, the Great North Run, and the Great Swims, and their Uncle James ran the Great Manchester 10K while Lucas was in hospital. Their dad even completed the London Marathon last year – a true inspiration to the girls.
Thanks to their amazing effort, Georgina and Matilda raised funds that will go directly towards supporting other babies and families in the NICU, funding critical equipment, research, and family accommodation.
For Georgina and Matilda, this run was about more than just medals – it was about love, remembrance, and making a difference.
From everyone at Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity, we’re so proud of these incredible young fundraisers. Thank you, Georgina and Matilda, for running in memory of Lucas and helping to bring hope and support to so many others.
