Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity has launched a fundraising appeal to help complete the hospital’s brand-new Ambulatory Care Unit. The appeal will fund extras designed to improve the patient experience – including TVs, virtual reality headsets, artwork, and fidget toys – creating a space that feels calm, comforting, and patient-centred.

The new unit marks the realisation of a 10-year vision led by Consultant Gynaecologist Mr Adel Soltan, who has worked tirelessly to transform the way gynaecology care is delivered in terms of faster access to diagnosis and treatment including rapid access referral with suspected cancer, shorter treatment pathway with wider lesser invasive options one stop interactive ambulatory care where relevant or appropriate, better utilisation of resources and efficiency, more choice and flexibility to patients especially in cases of high risk anaesthetic.
“This is a milestone moment for women’s healthcare in Liverpool,” said Mr Soltan. “For over a decade, we’ve been working towards a model of care that’s more efficient, less invasive, and more empowering for patients. The new unit means better access and wider choice, women can get the treatment they need and return home the same day, surrounded by loved ones, even more flexibility especially for those who wish to avoid general anaesthetic or considered high risk. Now we have the space – we need the community’s help to make it truly patient-friendly.”
The Ambulatory Care Unit will enable women to have treatments such as removal fibroids, endometrial ablation or removal of polyps without general anaesthetic – reducing waiting times, improving recovery, and minimising hospital stays. Many of these procedures can be done while the patient is awake, with support from specialist staff.
The appeal is part of the wider Crown Street Enhancements Programme, and the £6 million building project is being delivered by Tilbury Douglas, with support from Gilling Dod Architects, Hoare Lea, and Sutcliffe. It is the latest in a series of upgrades at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, following the award-winning Neonatal Unit and the new Fetal Medicine Centre.
Kate Davis, Head of Fundraising at Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity, said:
“We’re incredibly proud of the new unit, and even more proud of the care our staff provide. Now we need help to make this space feel warmer and calmer. Items like artwork, sensory tools, and distraction technologies may seem small – but they can make a huge difference to someone going through an unfamiliar or emotional procedure. This is where the NHS charities can step in and help.”
